The Valkyrie will be powered by a race-optimised version of the glorious Cosworth 6.5-litre naturally-aspirated V12 engine and a world-class electronics package equipped with the latest generation ECU, the Antares 8 as well as the Centaurus 5, its latest power distribution product.
Aston Martin has unveiled its stunning and highly-anticipated contender for its bid for victory at the 24 Hours of Le Mans this year. The race-optimised Valkyrie will run with a modified version of the naturally-aspirated Cosworth V12 engine originally produced for the Valkyrie road car. The power unit has been enhanced to incorporate the Balance of Performance requirements of the Hypercar class.
The Valkyrie will be the only hypercar to contest in both the WEC and IMSA championships in 2025 with the works Aston Martin THOR Team. Two Valkyries adorned with a stunning green livery have been entered for the WEC season, debuting in Qatar, the first race of the season on 28 February. A single Valkyrie will compete in IMSA, running in a special version of the distinctive THOR blue livery, debuting at Sebring 12 Hours on 12-15 March.
The race-optimised Valkyrie will feature world-class Cosworth electronics, including its latest generation ECU, the Antares 8, as well as the Centaurus 5, its latest power distribution product.
Cosworth has built a formidable reputation for itself in global motorsport over the past six decades. As it enters an exciting new era with Aston Martin, Cosworth is ready to build on its existing expertise at Le Mans - one of motorsport’s triple crown along with the Monaco Grand Prix and Indy 500.
Cosworth last entry as a powertrain supplier at Le Mans was in 2015, but has supported teams in all classes with its state-of-the-art electronics for decades; including the current generation of Hypercar. At last year’s 24 Hours of Le Mans, 85% of the grid used Cosworth’s electronics products, also known as the ‘eco system’.
Cosworth’s Managing Director of Powertrain, Bruce Wood said: “This is a momentous year for Cosworth, as we return to the pinnacle of sports car racing as an engine supplier. We are proud to support Aston Martin in its quest for Le Mans glory. This year marks the culmination of a decade of collaboration between us and we cannot wait to see and hear the roar of the Valkyrie at race tracks across the world.”
