We kicked off 2023 by heading to the Autosport International Show in Birmingham for our first event of the year. The show was an excellent opportunity to not only showcase our wide range of products from across the Group, but also launch two exciting new products.
On the first day of the show, we launched the CCW MkII Pro Sim in partnership with SIMTAG. The announcement was received extremely positively on social media by the motorsport and sim racing community alike. It’s the first product of the partnership built to deliver exclusive high-end sim racing equipment, with more products to follow. The partnership combines our knowledge and experience of performance electronics in the motorsport industry with SIMTAG’s experience in creating high-quality sim racing products.
The CCW MkII Pro Sim is externally identical to the CCW Mk2 – the motorsport wheel that has been used to great success across a number of race series including the World Endurance Championship’s LMP2 class, IndyCar, and Super Formula in Japan. The same components for rotary position switches, paddles, buttons and thumb wheels are used across both, giving drivers the ability to replicate the exact setup that they use in the race car, on a simulator. The wheel’s only differences to its real-world counterpart are the internal electronics, this is to enable the wheel to be used on a PC with existing sim racing titles. More information about the CCW MkII Pro Sim will be available soon.
The simulator was a popular feature of our stand, as visitors not only got to try their hand at the new sim steering wheel but also competed to set the fastest lap each day, to be in with the chance of winning a prize, either a limited-edition model of the Ford Sierra RS500 Cosworth or Ford Escort RS Cosworth. Among the quickest people to try their hand at setting a lap were British Touring Car drivers Jake Hill and Tom Ingram, World Rallycross driver, Kevin Hansen, and 2022 Aston Martin Autosport BRDC Young Driver of the Year, Luke Browning, who topped the timings on the first day of the show.
We also launched our brand-new motorsport wheel, the CCW Mk3. The 284mm FIA certified ultra-lightweight carbon steering wheel has been developed on decades of engineering knowledge within high-end motorsport prototype applications. Its combination of 14 RGB LED push buttons, 4 x 12-way RGB LED rotaries and 4 x 16 detent thumbwheel encoders offering fast, efficient control to the endurance driver. The CCW Mk3 has already been deployed by the majority of Le Mans Hypercar and the Le Mans Daytona Hybrid grid.
Another star attraction of our stand was kindly provided by our customer, United Autosports, who sent us car 22, which raced in WEC, Le Mans and Daytona last year. We also showcased the brand-new Cosworth licensed timepieces in partnership with Cadola around the stand, along with the 2015 Nismo NV engine.
As part of the dedicated electric vehicle stand at the show, we took the Ariel Hipercar featuring a bespoke Delta Cosworth battery pack and the Envision two-seat experience car which was fully designed in-house by the team at Delta Cosworth.
Over in the Business Forum, CEO Hal Reisiger and Delta Cosworth Managing Director, Simon Dowson participated in the Next Generation Technologies and Energy & Sustainability panel discussions. Both Hal and Simon took the opportunity to share Cosworth’s vision of a sustainable future for the transport industry and delved deeper into our own development programmes.
The show was a huge success for us and a great opportunity to inform and re-educate the public and media about our products, work and expertise that we’re bringing to a multitude of sectors. We look forward to showcasing more of our capabilities over the course of the year.
