As it celebrates its 65th anniversary year, high-performance engineering company Cosworth is growing its presence in the aerospace and defence with key strategic ventures.
Cosworth is renowned for its durable, high-performance propulsion systems honed by its decades of expertise in automotive and motorsport solutions. The company is continuing its successful work in a wide range of industries, including marine, aerospace and other defence applications.
Cosworth has been working on projects within the industry for over a decade. Initially, the company developed AG heavy-fuel engines for reconnaissance drones before later diversifying into a range of propulsion and control solutions.
In February 2023, Cosworth was one of five vendors to be selected for the Jumpstart for Advanced Battery Standardization (JABS) project, a collaboration between multiple United States defence organisations. As part of the award, Cosworth is developing a high-performance modular battery system based on its Cylindrical Scalable Module (CSM).
Cosworth recently announced a partnership with Kraken Technology Group, with the initial focus on the Kraken MANTA platform – a range of autonomous uncrewed surface and subsurface vessels. Cosworth is developing advanced battery systems capable of powering Kraken maritime platforms in faster, more efficient and disruptive ways.
As it continues to embark on new projects within the sector, Cosworth will be exhibiting its wide array of high-performance capabilities in propulsion, connectivity, automation and racing across a multitude of industries at DSEI, due to be held at the Excel in London from 12-15 September. The event is set to be the largest iteration, with over 2,800 defence and security suppliers set to be in attendance.
Chris Willoughby, Commercial Director, Powertrain said: “This is an incredibly exciting chapter in Cosworth’s history. We are supplying high-performance propulsion systems to an ever-growing list of customers in automotive, marine, aerospace and defence industries. We’ve been working closely with partners on projects in the military and defence space for many years, and now offer a diverse range of highly reliable and efficient ICE and EV powertrains that can be deployed in the harshest of environments. To complement our efforts to expand our work in the sector, Cosworth is looking forward to exhibiting at DSEI for the first time. It offers an excellent opportunity for us to showcase our state-of-the-art capabilities to both prospective and current partners.”
